Birth Pool Hire in NZ: How It Works, What's Included & What It Costs

If you're planning a calm water birth at home, birth pool hire in NZ is the simplest, most affordable way to get a professional-grade pool without buying one you'll only use once. Here's everything you need to know — how it works, what's included, what it costs, and when to book.

Why hire a birth pool instead of buying?

A quality birth pool is a significant purchase for something you'll use for a single, special occasion. Birth pool hire gives you the same deep, comfortable, soft-sided pool that midwives trust — delivered clean and ready to use — for a fraction of the cost, with none of the storage or resale hassle afterwards.

What's included in our birth pool hire kit?

Our birth pool hire includes everything you need for a gentle home water birth:

  • The professional Natural Cream birth pool
  • A sterile, single-use birth pool liner that extends right to the base
  • Electric air pump for quick, effortless setup
  • Submersible drainage pump for easy emptying
  • Tap adaptors and a food-grade filling hose
  • Two waterproof repair patches
  • A return postage sticker for an easy return

Everything arrives clean and ready to use, so there's nothing to source separately in those final weeks.

How does delivery work?

We deliver birth pool hire nationwide across Aotearoa New Zealand from our base in Mangawhai, Northland. We're especially loved by Northland whānau in Whangārei, Warkworth, Wellsford and the Kaipara, and we ship right through Auckland, the Waikato, Wellington and the South Island.

What does birth pool hire cost in NZ?

Our hire starts at $250 for a 4-week period, with a 5-week option also available. The price includes the full kit above — there are no hidden extras. The hire window is timed to comfortably cover your due date.

When should I book?

We recommend booking your birth pool a few weeks before your due date so it arrives in good time and you can set it up calmly. If you go past 42 weeks, just let us know — we'll work with you on a short extension where possible.

Planning the rest of your home birth?

Many families pair their pool with our water birth kit for the supporting essentials. However you prepare, a hired birth pool takes one big worry off your list — so you can focus on a gentle, grounded arrival at home.
